March 2015

April 09, 2015

By the end of March, I needed a rough draft of my film. I needed to have a story laid out with the characters and subjects of my outline put to a edit of the film. Last month I showed a trailer for the film and put it out on the website to be used as a reference of what the film would hopefully be. As of last week, I do have a rough draft of the film, but I have decided to leave it off the site for the time being. From what I have made so far, the film takes a “rough draft” to the limit of being 10 minutes of cuts put together in a pattern that hardly represents a story. I have most of the footage I need to complete the film, but I haven’t spent the time aligning everything to an extent that will tell and make a good storyline.

Since I last wrote a blog post, I have done one more trip to Murray’s, which consisted of another interview and a photo shoot of him and the farm. As of now, I have a little more interaction with him and the farm, but I definitely need more in the form of video. Over the next couple weeks, I plan on going over to the farm and spending a day just filming daily activities; how he works, how he lives, and how he interacts with his wife and family. Until now I don’t think I understood how important this element is to a documentary film, and I think I talked about this in my last blog post, but what the film comes down to is this one subject. Meaning I need to capture the entirety of that person, who they are internally and externally.

By the end of this quarter, I need to be finished with this film, along with cover designs, and a finished website (a build of what I’m using right now). This is definitely the hardest time of the year to get work done (because of activities I have picked up and because of the work load I have for other classes). That said, the project will be finished, and there will be a final product. I understand that this is a learning experience, and I think thats why its so important to work as hard as you can, and to make sure that I get as much out of this class as I can.

More blog posts to come.
